The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is one of six departments in the Faculty of Science at the University of Regina. With 22 full time faculty members, the Department is fully engaged with the principal tasks of a university: the creation, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge through (i) fundamental research, (ii) publication, and (iii) undergraduate and graduate teaching. The Department also plays a substantial and innovative role in bringing mathematical science to the community.
The Department offers a variety of undergraduate programs, but there are three main areas of focus: Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science. These three disciplines form the basis of interdisciplinary programs such as Biology and Statistics, Economics and Statistics, and Mathematics and Mathematics Education. There are about 140 undergraduates presently registered in one of the Department's undergraduate degree programs.
The Department also has a vibrant graduate program. In the period 2001 to 2008, the Department supervised to graduation twenty-eight students, resulting in the awarding of 10 PhD degrees and 18 MSc degrees.
