Announcements
- The final marks for the course will not be available until the start of the new term in January. The marks have to be approved before they are released, and
this will not happen until after the university has reopened after the Christmas and New Year vacation.
- To answer a common question, in the final exam you will provided with copies of the standard normal and t-tables. You do NOT
have to copy them all out!!!!
- Summary answers to the Winter 2011 final exam are now posted here. I have also corrected some typos on the answers to the sample exam.
- I have posted yet another sample final exam here.
- The review class on Monday 19 December will now be from 7.45–9.45pm in RIC119.
- I have revised the solutions for the assignment-type practice problems here. (I had copied them from last year, when
slightly different notation was used; there were also a couple of typos.)

- FINAL EXAM INFORMATION:
- The final exam will be on Wednesday 21 December, 9.00am–12.00 noon, in GYM 2. (Some other Stat100 sections will be writing in GYM 1, so please come to
the right room.)
- There will be review sessions, going over old exam papers, at the following times:
- Monday 12 December, Wednesday 14 December, Thursday 15 December, 6.00–8.00pm, CL110 (with Michael Sherar)
- Thursday 15 December, 7.00–9.00pm, RIC119 (with Patrick Maidorn)

- My office hours before the exam: Wednesday Dec. 7, Wednesday Dec. 14, Thursday Dec. 15, Monday Dec. 19, Tuesday Dec. 20, all 2.00–4.00pm, in CW307.12.
- In addition to pens/pencils and a calculator, you will need to bring to the exam the GREEN formula/cheat sheet.
These were distributed in class on Monday 5 December. (If you missed the class, make sure you collect them
during office hours.)
- There is only one rule about what you can put on the green sheet: it must be handwritten. You can
write on both sides.
- Some sample final exams can be found here, as can a suggested list of formulas you may want to include on your green sheet.
- Finally, a set of assignment-type practice problems can be found here.
- Solutions for Assignment 3 can now be found here.
- There will be review classes on Tuesday 29th November and Tuesday 6th December, at
2.30pm in room CL112 (in the Classroom building). The first of these will review Midterm 2, and
the second will review Assignment 3.
- Online Homework 7 is now available on WebAssign. The deadline is Wednesday 30th November at
9:30AM. This will be the last online assignment which counts towards your grade.
- The third (and final) written assignment is now available here. It
should be submitted in class on Friday 2nd December.
- Solutions to Midterm 2 can be found here. Make sure you are looking at the
correct version!
- A sample test for the second midterm is now available here, along with the formula
sheet.
- Sources of help outside class:
- Online Homework 6 is now available on WebAssign. The deadline is Monday 14 November at 9:30AM.
- Tables of values for the standard normal distribution can be found here.
- The deadline for the written Assignment 2 has been extended to MONDAY 31 OCTOBER.
- Midterm 1 was returned in class on Friday 21 October. Unclaimed copies can be collected during my office hours.
- Solutions to Midterm 1 can be found here. Make sure you are looking at the correct version!
- The second written assignment is now available here.
This should be submitted in class on Friday 28 October.
- Online Homework 4 is now available on WebAssign. It is due on Monday 24 October at 9:30AM.
- Assignment 1 was returned in class on Wednesday 12 October. If you didn't collect yours, then you can pick it up during my office
hours.
- If you have any queries about the way in which your assignment was graded, please compare your answers to the model solutions (here) before bringing your assignment to me.
- There was a small error in the solutions to Question 3(c) on Assignment 1: I have posted revised solutions here.
- Because of Thanksgiving, the TA's office hour on Monday, 10 October will be
cancelled. Instead, there will an office hour on Tuesday, 11 October, from
2.00–4.00pm, in CW 308.24 (the Computer Science boardroom). Note the
change in venue!
- Solutions for Assignment 1 can now be found here.

For question 2, you will need the data set here. This

Textbook
The textbook is Introduction to Probability and Statistics (Second Canadian Edition),
by Mendenhall, Beaver, Beaver and Ahmed. (Note that this is a new textbook from previous
years' Stat100 courses.)
A copy of the textbook is strongly recommended, as it provides access
to Enhanced WebAssign, which will
be used for conducting online homework exercises which form part of the
overall grade for the course.

Online homework
These will be assigned most weeks, and conducted
using the Enhanced WebAssign
system. If you purchase a copy of the textbook from the UofR Bookstore,
you will acquire an account for this. It is also possible to purchase an
account without buying the textbook.
For those students registered by September 1st, you will have had an
account created for you. However, this will only become fully activated
once you have entered your Access Code.

- Your username is your student ID number.
- Your institution code is uregina.ca.
- Your password is also your student ID number, but you should probably
change this as soon as possible.

There will be three traditional written assignments, which will be due in
class on Fridays.

Handouts
- Lecture slides (not complete notes, just the data sets and/or graphs used in examples):

Other things
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) is available for Stat100. This offers free out-of-class study groups, with three
one-hour weekly sessions and you may choose to go to one, two, or all three sessions. The sessions are held in CW308
(College West), at the following times: Tuesday 1.30–2.30pm; Wednesday 12.30–1.30pm; Thursday 1.30–2.30pm.
The first session is on September 15th.
This is a good opportunity for extra practice and help with the course material, and is not to be wasted. It's there for
your benefit! Further information can be obtained from the Faculty of Science web
site, where you can find a short video.
- The Student Success Centre on the 2nd
floor of the Riddell Centre provides free tutoring for Stat100 and other first-year math classes.
- Help can also be found at the Campion
College Math & Stats Clinic, each weekday on the 5th floor of the Campion College building.
- Dr.
Petry's lecture notes for Stat100–C01. We will not be following these notes exactly, but
