2006-11-02: I am once again thinking about postponing next week's midterm. Please let me know by e-mail, or in the lecture on Friday, if you have any thoughts about that.

2006-11-02: There was an error in Problem Set 4: question 1 should say $52$ numbers, not $51$ numbers. The error is corrected in the online copy. Thanks to Devon Knuttila for pointing out the error.

2006-10-29: We will have another evaluated group work session this Wednesday, November 1. This one will be on infinite sets.

2006-10-29: Problem Set 4 is now available.

2006-10-24: It was just pointed out to me that the assertion in question 8 of Problem Set 3 is false. It's too late to correct the problem set, so just leave that question off for now and we'll talk about it later.

2006-10-22: A number of students have written to me regarding difficulties with problem set 3. I have decided to postpone the due date to Wednesday, October 25 so that we can discuss the problem set in the lecture on Monday, October 23.

2006-10-21: As discussed at the beginning of the course, I am going to start evaluating group work. The first evaluated group work session will occur on Wednesday, October 25. Please be sure to attend that class. The topic will be the pigeonhole principle.

2006-10-15: Problem Set 3 is now available.

2006-10-11: There has been a minor correction to the solution for problem set 2, question 4(b). Thanks to Stefan Miller for pointing out the error.

2006-10-10: I have changed problems 4, 5, and 6 on the sample midterm. The new problem 5 is quite a bit harder. Draft solutions are also available; they will be completed later in the day.

2006-10-09: Sample Midterm Test 1 is available. Please try it in 50 minutes to see how long it is, and let me know if you think it is too long. The last three questions are rather difficult; let me know if you find the test too difficult.

2006-10-08: Midterm Test 1 will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 during class time. Sections tested will be Chapters 1, 2, 3, and sections 5.1 and 5.2. I will put a sample test on this site shortly.

2006-10-07: Draft solutions to Problem Set 2 are available.

2006-10-05: There are a few changes to problem set 2: one correction (to problem 4(b)) and a few clarifications (for problems 2, 3, and 7). I have also added a bonus question to the end. Please see the corrected version in the Resources section.

2006-10-01: I would like to delay Midterm Test 1 for one week, to October 11, 2006. We will discuss on Monday; please let me know if this will be a problem for you. Other suggestions are welcomed.

2006-09-28: I and some of your colleagues in the math education program have been working on an activity for grade 7-12 students at this year's Math Enrichment Camp to take place at UofR on Saturday. 2006-09-14: Problem Set 1 is now available in the resources section.

2006-09-07: The Math, Actuarial, Statistics Society (MASS) will be holding a meeting for all undergraduate math students on Monday, September 11, from 2:30 to 4:00. Attend to find out about upcoming events and have some free pop.

2006-09-06: A second draft course outline, based on the discussion in today's class, is now available in the Resources section. Please look it over and we can discuss further on Friday. If we all agree, I will finalize the outline and hand out printed copies on Monday, September 11.
